Woman frustrated by menopause makes hilarious ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ parody and goes viral

June 9th, 2021

Personal health can be a touchy subject. In fact, for many people, it is still considered taboo to talk about. Yet, for some, talking about it is the only way to get through it. And for others, all it takes is some singing to an iconic tune.

In a parody video, Shirley Șerban tackles the topic of menopause to the tune of “Bohemian Rapsody.”

Menopause is one of those topics many people believe shouldn’t be discussed, especially on a public platform.

But, the comments on Menopause Rhapsody tell a different story. One commentator writes,

“Omg yes, these hot flashes are a mess. Sending to everyone I know.”

Another person says,

“This is the most accurate description of menopause I have ever heard. Doctors should pass this out along with medication.”

Lyrics from the song include:

“I’m just a woman
Asking for sympathy
Because a hot flush comes
Memory goes
Mood is high
Then it’s low.”

With this video, Șerban has created a place where people can comfortably discuss the difficulties of experiencing menopause. Not only that, but she also makes it okay to laugh as well.

When it comes to personal health, it can be hard to find humor.

But people like Șerban do the work for the rest of us. One comment says,

“This is hilarious and sadly true. The only thing we women can do is laugh and enjoy wonderful parodies like this. Way to go, Shirley!!!”

This sentiment can be valid for a lot of what we go through as humans. So often, the world around us is out of our hands, and all we can do is laugh. Or, as another commenter says,

“Of course this song made me cry. Then I laughed, sweated, ached…then cried again.”

Shirley Șerban isn’t the only one parodying “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

In another video titled Coronavirus Rhapsody, Raúl Irabién signs about what it has been like to live with Covid-19.

There is no way around it; covid is serious and has been difficult for everyone with the shutdowns and loss of loved ones.

But, for many people, the only way through a hard time is by finding company in the hardships.

Like Menopause Rhapsody, Coronavirus Rhapsody has created a space for people to come and talk about the experience through music and art.

The comment section is full of praise for the singer and his incredible talent.

Although it was written over a year ago, when no one knew how long the pandemic would last, it still sees traffic, with over five million views. And this just goes to show how people can find comfort in humor (and fantastic singing!)

Funny enough, one of the comments on the covid parody reads,

“Ladies, if you like this and haven’t seen the “menopausal” version…you really need to look it up. I’m sure most have seen it if you’re here watching this, but…it’s really a must-see!!”

What do you think about these parodies? Do you find them relatable? Or maybe they provide a few minutes to look past yourself and see that you aren’t alone.

Hopefully, Menopause Rhapsody eases the change you might be going through or makes the future less scary. But, surely if you are going through it, someone has made a “Bohemian Rhapsody” parody of it, and if they haven’t, you just might have to!
