Leaving home for a long amount of time is hard for almost anyone but leaving your pet behind for that long as well is almost unbearable! Every day, being apart from each other, makes you miss your pet even more. You hope that you pet is okay without you but also hoping that your pet still misses you too.
When you return, and you realized they missed you too, it makes your reunion even more special!
That was the case for Private Hannah Foraker from Cleveland, Ohio. Foraker left her home and her 13-year-old best friend, Buddy, for basic training in the US Army. She had been gone from home for three and a half months before being allowed to go home for two weeks for Christmas.
She could not wait to reunite with Buddy.
Foraker stated, “She’s very old and has arthritis and is mostly deaf, but I still remember getting her as a puppy.”
The reunion between Foraker and Buddy was everything Foraker could have hoped for! Buddy had not forgotten her. Old age and Buddy’s health did not stop him from running to his girl. Buddy had missed her as much as she missed him!
Foraker remembers, “We opened the front door and she came running out and greeted me and my family, but then kind of did a double take and came back to me.”
Foraker kneels down to give Buddy her full attention. Foraker starts to talk to Buddy to tell him how much she missed him, while she continuously pets him because he cannot get enough of her. Once she starts talking, Buddy starts to cry!
Buddy cannot believe his ears, Hannah is finally back home!
Once Buddy fully grasps that Hannah is home, he gets another rush of disbelief and loses his footing in his excitement. Hannah is there for her good boy and lets his head lay on her thighs. She gives his head a good rub, which makes him lift his head up for bit before laying it right back on her.
Buddy is able to cuddle up next to his best friend of 13 years and he is not going to miss any second!
Buddy’s old age and health issues has slowed Buddy done in the recent years. So, those two weeks were great for Buddy, according to Foraker’s parents.
The reunion with Buddy brought him back to his former self.
Foraker said, “My parents were so astonished by how happy she was during my time at home.”
The happiness was not only because of the initial reunion. Buddy was ecstatic every day that Hannah was home for the holidays. Hannah not only brought back Buddy’s happy personality, she brought back an energy of his youth too.
“She normally has trouble going up and down the stairs and takes shorter walks, but now that I was home she was so happy and active. She would get up and do her happy dance,” Foraker explains.
Hannah Foraker’s leave was only for the holidays, but Buddy soaked up every minute of it. Buddy had not forgotten his girl after being gone for three and half months. When Hannah was asked how she felt about the reunion her answer was simple.
“It was amazing, I wish I could do it again,” Foraker said.
