One of the most dramatic ways of expressing a message is dancing.

The use of your entire body to move along with the music can tell a compelling story.

And the best dance to tell it? Lyrical dance.

As the name suggests, this dance allows free interpretation of a dance group that reflects the song’s lyrics. It also requires dancers to show the song’s emotion through their facial expressions.

Add the complicated and precise movements, this artistic display of storytelling can really move you.

This lyrical dance performance to “Hallelujah” is the perfect example of that.

These are the girls from the Whangarei Academy of Dance and Performing Arts. The school teaches a wide array of dance classes like ballet, jazz, acrobatics, contemporary, and much more.

Their aim is not only to teach dance to kids but a holistic development in their well-being. This includes physical fitness, mental focus, control, and discipline. Furthermore, they also train the students so they will have a deeper understanding and love for dancing.

These girls were chosen and trained to compete at Showcase Nationals.

The dancers endured months of practice to not only wow the crowd and judges but to bag a recognition or two as well.

The moment they walked on stage, you know you’re in for a treat.

It was solemn and calm. The girls stayed steady in place, took a few deep breaths before they start their heartwarming performance.

And then, the music played.

Just as the song’s first note played, one dancer started to dance with her powerful moves.

The rest followed through, gracefully moving their arms and legs to the song’s melody.

Dancing to X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke’s rendition of a classic Leonard Cohen song, the girls connected to the audience with their emotions.

They moved around that stage freely and with ease.

They let the music take over their bodies and just moved perfectly with the rhythm.

It’s like they just let go and let each note dictate their every move. And it turned out beautiful!

Every split, turn, arabesque, cambre, and efface was so precise and graceful. Whether they were dancing in one or two different formations, their moves synchronized with each other and the music.

Their liftings were exhilarating, too.
