One of the most important life skills that a young person can learn is dancing.

It’s the type of skill that you may not use often but when the situation calls for it, you’ll want to have some sort of experience in it.

Needless to say, Peter and Sage already have this skill down.

Their ballroom dancing abilities rival even those at a professional level.

The specific type of ballroom dance that these two performed is called the Viennese Waltz.

While it is actually the original form of waltz dancing, it isn’t exactly what we think of when we hear of people dancing the waltz.

The popular form of the waltz is the English waltz (also called the slow waltz)–which is danced at a much slower pace.

But besides that, the two forms look pretty similar–they essentially involve lots of spinning and twirling.

Even though this style of waltz required quick steps and fast rotations, it didn’t seem to phase Peter or Sage at all.

From the moment they stepped out onto the floor they exuded confidence.

And if the spins and steps weren’t hard enough, the pair also pulled off a couple of very impressive lifts.

At one point, Sage is on Peter’s shoulders as he spins around in circles. The crowd loves it and lets out a round of cheers and applause.

Then again, later in the dance, Peter lifts Sage with one hand in the middle of her back and one hand on her leg.

She folds backward in the air and holds the pose just long enough for the crowd to let out another round of cheers before Peter drops her down safely into his arms.

As someone who can’t dance to save his life, this performance really impressed me.

The dance partners seem to be gliding over the floor as if it were made of ice. And their moments are synced up so perfectly that it almost looks like they are physically connected to one another.

It’s nice to see a couple of young people embrace a dancing style that is very different than the mainstream dance styles of today–one that isn’t hypersexualized and consists of more than just gropes and grinds.

However, you may be surprised to hear that the waltz had it’s time of public disapproval when it first appeared on the scene.

According to Arthur Murray Dance Centers, “When the Viennese Waltz made its initial appearance, it had its share of scandal; in fact, backlash was so harsh that several magazine articles and pamphlets immediately appeared, denouncing the dance as lewd and immoral, while criticizing such ‘shocking’ displays as the ankles of women, visible as they danced in dizzying circles across the ballroom floor.”

Of course, by today’s standard, this dance is extremely modest and mild.

Whether you’re a fan of ballroom dance or not, this video will impress you. The time and effort put into pulling this performance off was made clear by the dancer’s precise movements and obvious comprehension of the steps and spins.

If watching this video taught me one thing, it’s that I need to take a dancing class.

And if I learn to dance even half as well as Peter and Sage, then I’ll be happy.
