There’s a common misconception when it comes to pit bulls often giving them a bad image. The truth is, pit bulls are heroic and extremely loyal dogs. We see story after story, of pit bulls who put their life on the line for the people they love. In some cases, the pitbull puppy hero’s, lose their own life in the process. That’s what happened when this brave pitbull lept in front of a venomous snake to protect his family and passed away.

This brave puppy pitbull lost his life after he saved the kids in his family from a venomous snake, he died a hero.
When 10-year-old, Orion, was playing in his backyard with their 9-month-old pitbull puppy, Zeus, he had no idea a coral snake was lurking in the shadows. Fortunately, and Unfortunately, puppy Zeus did.
Zeus lunged into action, biting, thrashing, and fighting with what Oriley thought was a rope. The 10-year-old didn’t think anything of it, after all, Zeus was a puppy who loved to play with things.
Zeus continued to fight the venomous coral snake, until he finally, sat on it trying to smother it. He saved 10-year-old Oriley’s life, but he was mortally wounded.
When 11-year-old Orion, came out to change Zeus’s water, the noticed that he looked “bug-eyed” but nothing else was out of the ordinary. It was until the boy’s flipped Zeus over when they realized something was very wrong. Underneath the pitbull, was the head coral snake he had saved the kids from.
Once the family realized Zeus had been bitten four times and had bit the head off of the coral snake, they rushed him to the hospital. The boy’s mother, Gina Richardson, called 911 on the way.
“I have the dog in my car. I’m trying to find what the nearest animal hospital is. He’s panting really bad.” Gina told the 911 operator.
They rushed the hero puppy to the vet where he got antivenom, but it was too late, he passed away from the snake bites.
With four snake bites, even with the antivenom, Zeus barely made it through the night and passed away the following day. The 9-month-old puppy truly died a hero.
Needless to say, the family was devastated, he was a part of their family. Father of the kids and Zeus’s owner, Gary Richardson, is torn between being grateful, and extreme sorrow.
“He was my best friend. I’m torn between wanting to be happy that this situation has brought awareness to his breed and their kind and loving nature, and the sorrow of having lost him.” Said, Gary.
