Pep rallies are a great way to encourage school spirit and show support for a school’s athletes. Loud and fun, pep rallies are usually held in gymnasiums or open fields. Because of its purpose, a pep rally leaves much room for creativity. This inspires students to concoct stand out gimmicks, usually involving skits, costumes, and catchy music.

And boy, did the students of Cholla High Magnet School get creative!

There were no drums, pom-poms, and costumes in school colors. There was only Michael Jackson.

Well, a student dressed just like him at least. The entire gymnasium was filled with cheers, screams, and thunderous applause as a group of students dressed like zombies danced to the award winning hit “Thriller“.

Barefoot and sporting torn, tattered clothing and ghastly make-up, the students gamely danced to the popular Michael Jackson track, mirroring the jerky movements in the iconic music video.

Unlike the usual pep rally performances that consist of choreographed dance numbers and cheers, this particular number lasted longer and had those on the bleachers anticipating their next move.

And just when you think “Thriller” was the main event, two students dressed as the Grim Reaper (sans the scythe) appeared and proceeded to wheel out a Dracula inspired coffin to the middle of the gym.

They slowly opened the coffin doors and the reveal was what really got the party started.

Out stepped the student dressed exactly like the King of Pop, wearing the classic black and white ensemble, complete with the hat, push-down socks, and loafers.

If you think the get up is impressive, wait until you see his killer moves.

It was such an entertaining number.

Not only did the student impress with his dancing and costume, but the entire performance allowed everybody present to enjoy a medley of Michael Jackson’s iconic hits, too.

Imagine how much fun it is when you and the rest of the student body get to groove to tracks like “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough“, “The Way You Make Me Feel“, “Black or White“, and “Billie Jean” at a pep rally.

This isn’t something that happens everyday, so you can imagine how excited everybody was to be watching something so carefully planned and well executed.

Coming up with the choreography, putting the costumes together, and rehearsing as a group isn’t easy, especially when you’ve got homework to finish and other extracurricular activities to take care of.

High school isn’t easy. On top of all the teenage struggles, you need to learn how to handle academic pressure, too. That’s why fun events like pep rallies are always a welcome interruption.

You’ve got to hand it to these students. From preparations up to the actual performance, they really gave it their all. And let’s not forget their appreciation for music and talent from a decade they didn’t grow up in.

Everybody really loved the unique pep rally presentation!

The final production was an incredible result of the team’s effort, creativity, and teamwork – things that definitely inspire school spirit. Press play and prepare to be entertained.
