Meet Toad, she’s a 5-year-old pit bull from Oklahoma City, who was born with an extra mouth right below her ear. The off-putting look of the second mouth had made it extremely hard for Toad to find a forever home. Fortunately, that all changed in an instant.

Heather Hernandez, owns ‘Mutt Misfits’ in Oklahoma City. The nonprofit shelter takes in stray dogs and cats, that are in danger of being euthanized due to birth defects. As soon as Hernandez met Toad, it was love at first sight! Just like that, Toad had a new, loving family.

First, the veterinarian thought Toad had extra ears, but after a closer examination, they realized it was a second mouth!

When Hernandez took Toad to the vet to be examined, initially, they thought she had some extra ears. Once they got her sedated and got a better look, they realized Toad was growing a second mouth on the side of her head. The mouth has teeth growing and even lips that salivate.

“It kind of sounds like something from a science fiction movie,” Said, Hernandez

The second mouth doesn’t cause Toad pain, but it does make her face misaligned, impairing her vision and her hearing.

Luckily, the second mouth doesn’t cause much pain, but there are some negative aspects to it. Because it’s growing somewhere where it’s not supposed to, it’s caused Toads face to be miss-aligned, leading to hearing and vision impairment.

Despite the deformity, the Hernandez family is totally dedicated to her well-being. They shower her with love, completely unbothered by the second set of teeth smiling at them.

“We had an immediate bond, she is one in a million and she’s very special to me.” Said, Heather.
