This could not have been much closer.

For any women who walk home from work, this story is a literal nightmare.

Unfortunately, we don’t live in a world where women can walk safely home in many places without being unattended.

This is a sad example of that.

The New York woman was heading home from work at 2 in the morning when the event happened.

Walking from the sidewalk into the apartment complex, you can see that there is a man who is carefully watching her without her being aware.

As the video shows, the woman moves from outside to the entryway and the man is close behind.

From what we know, the woman has no idea she is being followed at this point.

On the camera footage, it’s clear that the man is looking around, making sure nobody else is around to see him.

Rounding the stairs and heading to her apartment door, she seemed to be alone.

Struggling to get her keys into the lock, it looked like she realized that she was being chased.

In a frantic struggle, she finally unlocks the door as we see the man round the corner and see her.

Sprinting down the hall, the man reaches out for her as she tries to make it through the door in time.

With inches to spare, she pushes through the door and is able to slam it shut as the man flies into the spot where she once stood.

With a quick grab at the handle, he realized that she had just barely locked him out in time.

In frustration, the man kicks at the door and calls for her to open up.

Like any sane person would, the woman didn’t open the door and the man was caught on footage trying to kick the door open in anger.

His intentions were clearly not good.

When the police showed up, the woman was shaken up.

Later on, in an interview, the woman and her family were too afraid to even show their face.

The event rattled them to their core and the news interviewer had to give the interview backward so they could hide their faces.

As they explained, they were terrified that the man was still out there and something like this would happen again.

It’s not something that gives you peace of mind at night, let alone on your late-night walk home.

For any women who walk home, make sure you take some precautions!

Whether it’s pepper spray or a deterrent alarm, it’s probably valuable to keep something on you and immediately available.

They sell them all over the place and it might be worth a quick pick-up.

As the old adage goes, it’s better safe than sorry, right?
