Any adult knows how awful getting a traffic ticket is. Apart from the fees you have to pay, getting pulled over and having people gawk at you can be quite embarrassing. It’s as if you got into serious trouble.
Usually, people don’t get to experience all those things until they are old enough to drive. However, in Halifax, they like to teach the importance of following the law even at a young age.
Declan Tramley got his first ticket at the age of three!
He liked cruising the boardwalk. He considers it one of his favorite spots to explore. There, he’s able to meet a lot of people and check out a variety of shops. He also likes checking out the motorcycles in the area and mingling with the bikers there.
With his parents, he would often ride down on his bike wearing his nice leather jacket.
Unfortunately, the little boy wasn’t really paying attention to the signs when he parked his toy motorcycle on the street. It’s either that or he just can’t read signs yet.
Little did Declan know, Constable Shawn Currie was walking by.
After he has parked his toy, his dad caught a glimpse of the officer’s eye. He approached the officer and told him that his little kid loves the police. That’s when they came up with the plan to give him a ticket for fun.
The boy’s reaction was so priceless.
He acted just like an adult. As the officer was writing the fake ticket, he ran over and sat down on his bike. He looked extremely distraught which made everything even more hilarious.
Even the constable felt amused.
He said:
“I’m utterly amazed. First, the reaction of Declan. It’s cute and funny. It’s not a normal policing picture. It’s refreshing to see this.”
Constable Shawn has been in service for a long time. He has been serving his community as a part of its response team for over seven years. During his service, he and his team are constantly trying to find a variety of stories that would show the nice side of enforcing the law and policing.
According to him:
“We’re not always making arrests and hauling people away.”
The office did an awesome job.
You see, part of the constable’s job in the waterfront is to make sure that the circle is clear for emergency vehicles. A lot of motorcyclists like to come down and park in the area so making them aware of the law is important.
Letting kids know the value of following the law is also critical. It teaches them the right and wrong things to do in public as well as how they can help keep the community safe.
Even though the little kid was young when he experienced his first ticket, the lesson will surely stick with him as he gets older.
Declan wasn’t offended.
In fact, he actually fell in love with his ticket. He even tried getting to bed with it.
