Digging out a pathway and leveling the ground to put in a sidewalk is a lot of work. It is labor-intensive and usually takes many hands. It is not a fun job, but that is exactly what this group of firefighters did to help a woman in need.

Firefighters were responding to a call after a woman had fallen over in her wheelchair.

Firefighters from the Webster Groves Fire Department in Webster Groves, Missouri encountered a depressing situation while responding to a call. A woman had fallen to the ground after she was trying to cross her lawn in a wheelchair.

The ground was uneven and there was no pathway up to the front of her home. Having to go across a bumpy lawn and up several stairs to get inside her home was a daily struggle. Thankfully the woman was not injured after her fall but the firefighters saw a need and wanted to help.

This woman needed to have a safe and easier way to get inside her home. Trying to cross her grassy lawn, especially in the rain or snow, would be just about impossible.

The firefighters decided to build her a sidewalk.

These kind men went to work building her a walkway and ramp. Members from the Webster Groves Firefighters Community Outreach gathered together on their days off to help the woman in her time of need.

They dug and carved out a pathway for the new sidewalk. Leveling the ground, they compacted the soil and poured new concrete. Building a new path from her driveway they connected the sidewalk to her house.

The firefighters also built a ramp so that she would no longer have to go upstairs to enter her door.

With a brand new sidewalk and ramp, she will no longer have to cross her lawn to get inside her home.
