One fine Sunday morning, Tony the dog was outside enjoying his usual morning routine when something hilarious happened.
We’ve seen so many mistaken identity stories but not as cute and hilarious as this one. Henry, from the Adelaide Hills, in SA has pretty much the same routine especially on the weekend with his pet schnauzer. He let Tony, his dog out on a beautiful Sunday morning and when Tony came back – they were in for a cute surprise.
The bewildered little dog looked so confused!
He squirmed around trying to see what’s been clinging unto him. He wanted to nudge the adorable koala joey off his body, as if saying, “dude, I’m not your mum!”
Henry was surprised as well but he was quick to take a video of this funny scenario. Each time Tony tried to nudge the little baby koala, it found a way to get back, clinging to Tony’s fur again.
When an infant koala – called a joey is born, its first instinct is to immediately climb up to its mother’s pouch. It is blind, deaf, and pretty much hairless, so the koala joey will only rely to its sense of touch and smell to find its way.
As a joey grows and develops in the mother’s pouch for roughly six months, it steps out of the pouch and starts to cling and ride on its mother’s back.
Little cute joey here was looking for dear “mum” and mistakenly thought it was Tony. We can’t blame this little guy; Tony is rather soft and fluffy.
It looked like the little koala was determined to stay with Tony for a while but dear Tony wasn’t up for this type of bonding.
“Tony barked like he wanted to go outside for a pee,” Henry said to Adelaidenow.
“I followed him on his way out and saw the baby jump on him. It went for about two minutes before he came off and scampered up a tree.
Both were confused and scared. Tony surely didn’t expect this type of bonding and was shocked to feel someone clinging to him. This poor little baby was so confused and scared as well and we can definitely see this as he clings to Tony.
“I think his mum was probably up in the tree having a sleep and the baby thought Tony was his mum,” Henry continued in his interview.
As Tony was able to nudge the koala joey out of his fur, it immediately climbed back up into the nearby trees.
Koalas are fairly common in their area but this is something really unusual and has given everyone a good laugh.
For all those who are thinking what happened to the koala joey, Henry made a follow up in an animal sanctuary just to be sure that the little koala is back with his mum and wasn’t lost.
As the video became viral, many found this cute scenario funny and adorable! What will you do if you were in the same situation?
