It is officially December, which means that you have probably just enjoyed your very first holiday meal a week or two ago. The best part is that was just the beginning and now there are a couple more holiday meals to look forward to for Christmas, Hannukah, and New Year’s — plus all of the cold winter days in between.

Most people celebrated Thanksgiving with the delicious traditional turkey. For the next few meals though, we have some options — we could eat more turkey or go with steak, fish, you name it. One thing that is for sure is that there will be some type of tasty meat on the dinner table surrounded by other cozy comfort foods like potatoes, stuffing, greens, casseroles, and more potatoes.

If you are looking to spice things up, experiment with recipes that are out of your comfort zone and try something new, look no further. We have got the most perfect recipe for you.

We all know baked ham is a staple in our holiday spreads, but what about this non-traditional way of making it? It includes some unusual ingredients, like honey mustard and apples, and we are so here for it. It might sound weird on the surface, but it just might be the dish you need to keep you sane while your Uncle Barry is talking about politics.

The great thing about this juicy ham is that, like turkey, it will probably last you for a couple of days. Your family will enjoy it at dinner and then you will be indulging in delish leftovers for days to come. Nothing beats a gift that keeps on giving!

The recipe for this baked ham only calls for 6 ingredients, believe it or not. You will need:

  • Spiral-cut ham
  • Granny Smith apples
  • Whole grain mustard
  • Dijon mustard
  • Honey
  • Ground cardamom

…That’s it!

Smoked hams are pre-cooked and can be found at most grocery stores all year long, so for this recipe, you will basically be warming it through.

So, because you have a ton of spiral cut layers in your ham, it is an obvious opportunity to fill those empty spaces with something as equally flavorful. Enter: the apples.

When the ham goes in the oven to bake, the apples will release their juices which will ultimately make the ham — which is already juicy — even juicier, and even a little sweet! You also won’t need to wrap the ham in tinfoil because the apples are doing a good enough job of keeping it moist.

As for the honey mustard part, simply whisk together all of your mustards (you can also use yellow if that is what you prefer), honey and cardamom together in a bowl.

As the ham finishes cooking, glaze it by brushing the honey mustard mixture all over the outside. Make sure to get it in between layers to make sure it is really nice and seasoned. That will create a gorgeous crust that you are guaranteed to be obsessed with.

The honey mustard and apple are both sweet, but the mustard brings out a briny, acidic flavor that really compliments the naturally sweet meat.

This pork dish is fool-proof and can be served with stuffing, rolls, mashed potatoes and pie. It’s pretty easy to get creative with too. Yum!

Impress your family with your own porky heaven this year and see how much they will love you!
